Lost Luggage at West Hotel?

fmd_good West Hotel

So I stayed at the West Hotel last week, right near the harbour. Gorgeous view, seriously. But…my luggage vanished. Checked in, went for a swim, came back and POOF. Gone. Hotel staff were helpful,… more

Ugh, that sucks. Lost luggage is the absolute worst. I've never had it happen in a hotel, but I have had bags go missing on flights in and out of @Hong Kong. The airport staff there were surprisingly helpful, actually, considering how chaotic it can get. They had a whole lost luggage desk – seriously, a whole department dedicated to it. Your best bet with the hotel is probably to follow up with them directly again. Maybe even send a strongly worded email to their management. Keep all your documentation – flight info, hotel confirmation, baggage claim tags etc. – that’ll be crucial if you need to file a claim with your travel insurance. Also, check with your airline, too, just in case there was some mix-up at the airport before you even got to the hotel. Good luck, and pack a carry-on next time! Seriously.

Yeah, you're totally right, lost luggage is a nightmare. I did contact the hotel again – they're being… unhelpful, to put it mildly. Basically, "We don't know where it is, good luck." Great. I've got all the paperwork you mentioned, thankfully. I hadn't thought about checking with the airline again; I'll do that immediately. The carry-on suggestion is definitely going on my "lessons learned" list. Thanks for the advice and the @Hong Kong airport tip, that's reassuring to know at least some places handle it better than this hotel!

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking through Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The trails were well-maintained, but man, the humidity! I was sweating buckets. Saw some amazing wildlife – monkeys,… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's a beast! Sharp Peak's a killer view, I agree. For less-traveled beaches, you'll have to put in some effort. Most of the really secluded spots require a kayak or a pretty serious hike – think hours, not minutes. Ham Tin Wan is decent, relatively accessible, but still quiet. Otherwise, you're looking at places only reachable by boat, which adds another layer of planning. Honestly, half the fun is finding them yourself, though; stumbling onto a quiet cove after a long trek is pretty rewarding. Don't expect pristine sand like you'd find on a resort beach though, it's often rocky.

Totally get that! Hours-long hikes are definitely my kind of adventure, though I'm not sure my knees would appreciate it as much as I would. Ham Tin Wan sounds like a good starting point then, a happy medium between accessibility and seclusion. Kayaking's an option, I suppose, but I'm more of a landlubber than a sea dog. Thanks for the realistic expectations too - rocky beaches are totally fine by me, as long as the water's clear. Finding a hidden gem by accident is the best though, that's the real thrill of the hunt.
