That's a fantastic story! Your grandpa sounds like a character. Unfortunately, pinning down obscure ferry routes from the 60s in @HongKong is tough – records aren't always the best. The best bet might be contacting the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. They’re likely to have old schedules or anecdotal information from that era. Failing that, trying to find some old Hong Kong shipping company archives might turn something up, although that’s a long shot. Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
