PolyU Food Stalls?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

So I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the food stalls are legendary. Seriously, the photos online are insane. My question is: are the lines *always… more

Depends on the day, honestly. Some stalls are always busy, particularly the ones famous for things like wonton noodles or roast meat. Off-peak might mean a shorter queue, maybe 15-20 minutes instead of an hour, but don't count on it. If you're really pressed for time, maybe grab something quicker like a quick egg waffle or a dim sum from a less popular stall to tide you over. A week should give you plenty of chances though! Just be prepared to queue... or be very strategic about your timing. Maybe check out some reviews for less popular places that still get great reviews. Good luck!

Yeah, that makes sense. An hour queue is a commitment! I was thinking more of lunchtime rush hour avoidance, so maybe going a bit earlier or later could help. Good point about the egg waffles though – a good backup plan if the wonton noodle place is insane. Thanks for the tips!

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I finally made it to MingGarden Restaurant, the place everyone raves about in @HongKong. The food was amazing, seriously some of the best dim sum I've ever had. But the menu was... cryptic. Like… more

Oh man, those jade dumplings! I think they're called "crystal dumplings" or something similar – the menu probably just had some poetic Cantonese description. The filling is usually a delicate seafood mix, maybe shrimp and scallop with a touch of something sweet and savory... almost impossible to discern, which is kinda the point, I guess. They’re incredibly light and melt in your mouth. Next time, try the baked BBQ pork buns – they're legendary.
