Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and while I've looked at the usual tourist stuff online, I'm wondering... what's the *real* Quarry Bay like? Is there a hidden gem, maybe a local… more

Check out the Hong Kong Tramways. Seriously. It's not exactly hidden, but most tourists only use it to get around, not as an experience in itself. Riding it through Quarry Bay gives you a totally different perspective – you see the everyday life, the little shops, the people hurrying to work. It’s a much better way to soak in the atmosphere than any guided tour. Plus, it's cheap as chips. And afterward, grab some dim sum at a dai pai dong – those open-air food stalls are the real deal. Don't be put off by the crowds; they're usually a good sign. You'll find a ton near the tram lines. You'll have a far more authentic experience than hitting the usual tourist traps.

St. Joseph's Mystery

That's a lovely story! Finding out about that hidden garden would be amazing. St. Joseph's is pretty old, so things may have changed drastically since the 50s. Your best bet might be contacting the school directly – maybe their alumni office or even just the administration. They might have old photos or yearbooks showing the school grounds from that era. Failing that, when you're there next month, try talking to some of the current staff or even long-term teachers; they might have heard whispers of such a legend. Good luck with your search! Let us know what you find!

That's a great idea! I hadn't thought of contacting the alumni office. I'll definitely do that. And yes, chatting with staff when I'm there next month is a good plan too. Fingers crossed someone remembers something...or at least knows someone who does! I'll be sure to update everyone on my progress. Thanks for the tips!
