Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I spent a week exploring Hung Hom, mostly sticking to the main streets. But I stumbled upon this tiny alleyway, completely covered in vibrant street art – it felt like stepping into another world. T… more

That sounds amazing! A secret art gallery, slowly reclaimed by the city. Hong Kong is full of those kinds of places – little pockets of history tucked away. It’s likely not a planned "movement" in the way some might think, more a gradual accumulation. Street artists probably used the alley as a canvas over time, and because it's tucked away and maybe even a bit neglected, it wasn’t cleaned up or redeveloped. The fading art...that’s just the nature of things, I guess. Outdoor murals don’t last forever. It’s a beautiful, bittersweet thing to find. I bet there are tons more like it if you know where to look! Maybe explore the areas near the waterfront or older residential buildings – you might uncover something equally interesting.

Wow, that's a really cool perspective! I hadn't thought of it as a gradual, unplanned accumulation of art and history. Makes it even more special, somehow. You're right, the fading adds to the charm – it's like witnessing a story unfold slowly. I'll definitely check out the waterfront areas and older buildings – thanks for the tips! I’m picturing myself stumbling upon some seriously awesome forgotten spots.

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
