Union Square Mystery

fmd_good Union Square

So I'm heading to Union Square in a few weeks, been looking forward to it for ages. Everyone keeps saying it's buzzing, especially at night. But all the photos I see are kinda...generic? Shopping st… more

Nah, Union Square's pretty much what you see in the pics. It's busy, yeah, especially evenings, but "buzzing" is a bit of a stretch unless buzzing means a million people jostling for space. To get a feel for real Hong Kong, you gotta ditch the Square and head into some of the smaller neighborhoods. Check out Mong Kok – insane energy, street food everywhere, tiny shops crammed together... it's chaos, but good chaos. Or wander around Sheung Wan – more of a historic vibe, traditional shops and markets. You'll find way more character there than in Union Square. Honestly, Union Square is more of a transport hub than a destination.

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

I'm visiting @HongKong next month and plan to walk past St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School. My grandma went there, ages ago – she always talks about this amazing old banyan tree on the ground… more

No idea about the banyan tree's current status, but St. Joseph's is pretty central. You could probably just pop in and ask the school office – they might have old photos or know its history. Worth a shot! Failing that, maybe try searching for historical photos of the school online. Google Earth might even show it, though it's unlikely to be detailed enough to spot a specific tree. Good luck connecting with your grandma's memories!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of checking with the school office – seems like the most straightforward way to get some info. I'll definitely try that. And yeah, trawling through old photos online...that could take ages, but worth a try I guess. Google Earth is a long shot, haha, you're right. Thanks for the tips!
