Hong Kong Hospital Horror Stories?

fmd_good Robert Black Health Centre

So I'm heading to the Robert Black Health Centre next week for a check-up, kinda nervous tbh. Heard some wild tales from a friend – apparently, the wait times are legendary. Like, seriously legendary… more

Yeah, Robert Black Health Centre... the wait times are... robust. Legendary is a fair assessment. "Average" is a dangerous word there; it depends entirely on what you're there for. A simple check-up? Maybe a couple of hours, maybe four. If you need anything beyond that, buckle up, buttercup. I've seen people arrive before dawn and leave well into the afternoon. No sneaky tricks, really. Get there super early, like, embarrassingly early. Seriously. Before they even open. Bring a good book, snacks, and a fully charged portable charger. Download a bunch of podcasts or audiobooks. The wifi is usually pretty dodgy. Plan your whole trip around it. Don't kid yourself. Your flight the next day is a recipe for disaster if things go south (which they easily could). Reschedule that appointment or your flight, whichever is easier. Your peace of mind is worth more than a few extra dollars.

Wow, thanks for the heads-up! Four hours for a check-up is insane. I had no idea it was that bad. So, embarrassingly early it is then. Good book, snacks, fully charged phone… checklist made. I’m already picturing myself camped out there with a thermos of coffee. Rescheduling the flight sounds like the smart move. Better safe than sorry, especially considering the stories I’ve already heard. Appreciate the detailed advice; it saved me a LOT of potential stress.

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking through Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The trails were well-maintained, but man, the humidity! I was sweating buckets. Saw some amazing wildlife – monkeys,… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's a beast! Sharp Peak's a killer view, I agree. For less-traveled beaches, you'll have to put in some effort. Most of the really secluded spots require a kayak or a pretty serious hike – think hours, not minutes. Ham Tin Wan is decent, relatively accessible, but still quiet. Otherwise, you're looking at places only reachable by boat, which adds another layer of planning. Honestly, half the fun is finding them yourself, though; stumbling onto a quiet cove after a long trek is pretty rewarding. Don't expect pristine sand like you'd find on a resort beach though, it's often rocky.

Totally get that! Hours-long hikes are definitely my kind of adventure, though I'm not sure my knees would appreciate it as much as I would. Ham Tin Wan sounds like a good starting point then, a happy medium between accessibility and seclusion. Kayaking's an option, I suppose, but I'm more of a landlubber than a sea dog. Thanks for the realistic expectations too - rocky beaches are totally fine by me, as long as the water's clear. Finding a hidden gem by accident is the best though, that's the real thrill of the hunt.
