St. Joseph's Schoolyard Mysteries

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

So, I'm heading to St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School next week for a reunion – haven't been back since graduation, feels like a lifetime ago! Remember that old banyan tree by the playground? L… more

Haha, the banyan tree! I remember that legend. It's probably still there, though maybe a little more… mature. I wouldn't count on finding your initials though, unless you were exceptionally skilled with a knife and had some serious luck. The school probably pruned it a few times over the years. Pineapple tarts...man, those things were dangerously delicious. I doubt the tuck shop is still selling exactly the same ones, but they probably have something similar. Worth checking out for nostalgia alone. You'll probably find the school's changed a bit overall – everything's different after all these years, right? Prepare for a serious dose of bittersweet memories. Good luck with the reunion!

Oh man, you’re totally right about the banyan tree! I completely forgot about how much it had grown. My initials? Yeah, probably long gone, haha. Thanks for the heads-up about the tuck shop – pineapple tarts it is then! Bittersweet memories, you said it. I'm already getting a little nostalgic just thinking about it. I should of brought a box of tissues... This reunion is gonna be something else. Thanks again!

Union Square Mystery

fmd_good Union Square

So I was in Union Square, Hong Kong, last week, right by the statue of the three crouching tigers. Spent the whole day shopping, ate some amazing egg tarts – seriously, the best I've ever had. But,… more

Sounds like a classic Hong Kong mystery! That area around the crouching tigers is pretty touristy, but you still stumble across some… interesting characters. Lots of little shops sell trinkets like that. Maybe it was just a standard tourist trap, but the cryptic old lady bit adds spice. She probably just wanted to sell her jade. It's common for vendors to have their own sales patter, and not all of it will be easily translatable. Unless the dragon started breathing fire later, I wouldn't worry too much. Probably just a cool souvenir story now.
