Hong Kong Food Mystery

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

So I ate at Ming Garden Restaurant, the one near the waterfront. The dim sum was amazing, seriously some of the best I’ve ever had. But then, they served this one dish...a strange seafood soup...I co… more

That's a fun culinary mystery! Ming Garden's near the waterfront, huh? Lots of places source seafood differently in Hong Kong. It could be any number of things – maybe something less common like hairtail or even a local variety not widely known outside the area. Try asking the restaurant directly – they'd probably be happy to tell you! Or, next time you're there, maybe discreetly snap a pic of the fish if it's served whole, and then use a reverse image search. Good luck with your fishy quest!

That's a great idea about asking the restaurant! I hadn't thought of that. I'm a bit shy about that kind of thing, though... The reverse image search is clever too, I'll definitely try that next time. It was so delicious, I just had to know what it was! Maybe it was hairtail; I'll look that up. Thanks for the tips!

Hung Hom Ferry Mystery

fmd_good Hung Hom

So I was in Hung Hom, right by the pier, last week. Beautiful sunset, the usual chaos of the ferry terminal. I saw this old guy, looked like he'd been fishing all day, he had this tiny, intricately… more

Weird. Hung Hom's got a lot of history, and while I haven't heard of anything exactly like that, it wouldn't surprise me. Lots of old superstitions and traditions get quietly passed down through families. Maybe it was a way of releasing bad luck or something tied to a particular ancestor. Or maybe the guy was just a little bit…off. You know how it is in crowded places like that pier. Lots of eccentrics. It's probably best not to overthink it, unless you saw some kind of symbol on the box that might give a clue. Even then...who knows. Hong Kong keeps its secrets well.
