West Hotel Woes?

fmd_good West Hotel

So I stayed at the West Hotel, right in the heart of @HongKong. Gorgeous place, seriously. The view from my room was insane – I could practically touch the skyscrapers. But the Wi-Fi… man, the Wi-F… more

Yeah, the West Hotel's Wi-Fi is… infamous, to put it mildly. I've heard similar complaints. It's not necessarily a bad hotel, the views are killer as you said, but their internet infrastructure seems stuck in the 90s. Could just be bad luck with your room, but I wouldn't bank on it being much better elsewhere in the hotel. The Peninsula is usually much more reliable – they cater to a different crowd, you know? It's a safer bet if solid wifi is a must-have. Maybe check recent reviews specifically mentioning internet speed before you book though, just to be sure.

Good point about the Peninsula. I hadn't considered that. Their prices are… significantly higher, though. Ugh, this is a real first-world problem, isn't it? Killer views vs. reliable internet… it's a tough choice! Maybe I'll just suck it up and hope for the best at the West Hotel, and bring a good book. Thanks for the heads-up!

PolyU Campus Food?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to The Hong Kong Polytechnic University next week for a conference. Heard the campus food scene is legendary – apparently, there are more than just instant noodles and dodgy canteen fare.… more

Yeah, PolyU's food is surprisingly good! Forget the instant noodle stereotype. There's a decent little place near the library – I think it's called something like "The Noodle House" or similar – that does amazing wonton noodles. Seriously cheap and delicious. Also, check out the food court in the main building; it's usually buzzing and has a good variety, from Cantonese staples to some surprisingly decent international options. Don't sleep on the little bakery near the sports centre either; their egg tarts are to die for. You won't be disappointed, trust me. Enjoy the conference and the grub!
