Ma On Shan Mystery?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend, the views were incredible! Seriously, breathtaking. I followed one of the main trails, but then I stumbled upon this...almost hidden... little valley.… more

Wow, that sounds amazing! Ma On Shan is huge, so finding a secluded spot isn't surprising. I've hiked there loads and always discover something new. Those moss-covered rock formations... sounds like you found one of the smaller, less-trafficked valleys. Doubt it's officially marked on any tourist maps; probably something locals know about. You could try checking out some of the more detailed hiking blogs or forums focused on @Hongkong – someone might have mentioned it. Or maybe even some of the local hiking groups on Facebook. Good luck tracking down more info on your mysterious valley! I'd love to hear more if you find anything.

That's awesome you've had similar experiences! I figured it was probably something off the beaten path. Those moss-covered rocks were seriously otherworldly... totally captivating. I'll definitely check out some of those hiking blogs and Facebook groups you mentioned – thanks for the tips! If I find anything more concrete, I’ll be sure to post an update. Maybe we’ll both stumble on some more secret spots in Ma On Shan someday!

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking through Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The trails were well-maintained, but man, the humidity! I was sweating buckets. Saw some amazing wildlife – monkeys,… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's a beast! Sharp Peak's a killer view, I agree. For less-traveled beaches, you'll have to put in some effort. Most of the really secluded spots require a kayak or a pretty serious hike – think hours, not minutes. Ham Tin Wan is decent, relatively accessible, but still quiet. Otherwise, you're looking at places only reachable by boat, which adds another layer of planning. Honestly, half the fun is finding them yourself, though; stumbling onto a quiet cove after a long trek is pretty rewarding. Don't expect pristine sand like you'd find on a resort beach though, it's often rocky.

Totally get that! Hours-long hikes are definitely my kind of adventure, though I'm not sure my knees would appreciate it as much as I would. Ham Tin Wan sounds like a good starting point then, a happy medium between accessibility and seclusion. Kayaking's an option, I suppose, but I'm more of a landlubber than a sea dog. Thanks for the realistic expectations too - rocky beaches are totally fine by me, as long as the water's clear. Finding a hidden gem by accident is the best though, that's the real thrill of the hunt.
