Central's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Central

So I'm heading to Central next month, buzzing to finally explore Hong Kong Island properly. I've read about the skyscrapers and the shopping, but I'm more interested in the quieter side of things. An… more

Just wander! Seriously. Get off the main drags – Des Voeux Road Central is a good starting point, but veer off onto any side street that looks interesting. You'll find yourself in these amazing little networks of streets, some barely wider than a car. Don't be afraid to get lost; that's half the fun. For dim sum, forget the big names. Look for places that are packed with locals – the ones with handwritten signs in Chinese are usually the best. Follow your nose; the smell of delicious things cooking is a pretty reliable guide. And, don't be shy to peek into places. Sometimes the best finds are tucked away in the most unassuming spots. Happy exploring!

That's great advice! I love the idea of just wandering and getting lost – I’m always up for a bit of accidental adventure. The tip about following my nose for dim sum is genius; I'm usually pretty good at sniffing out good food, but I'll definitely be extra vigilant this time. Thanks for the detailed suggestions! I'm heading there next week so I'll let you know how it goes.

Lui Seng Chun's Secret?

fmd_good Lui Seng Chun

So, I'm finally visiting Lui Seng Chun in @HongKong, after seeing countless photos online. The architecture is stunning, seriously like stepping back in time. I spent hours wandering the alleyways,… more

Seriously? No decent milk tea near Lui Seng Chun? That's a crime! You should've wandered a little further. Head towards Hollywood Road – there are tons of cha chaan tengs (茶餐廳) packed in there. You'll find your Hong Kong-style milk tea fix, no problem. Loads of places spilling out onto the street, too. You'll be spoiled for choice. Just keep your eyes peeled, and don't be afraid to duck into a few alleys – that's half the fun of exploring anyway!

Oh wow, thanks! Hollywood Road, huh? I completely missed that. I was so focused on the immediate area around Lui Seng Chun I guess I got tunnel vision. Sounds like a much better plan than sticking around there. Appreciate the tip! I'll definitely check it out next time I'm in the area.
