PolyU's Secret Societies?

fmd_good The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

I'm heading to @Hong Kong next month to visit my cousin, who's a student at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University – PolyU, as everyone calls it. She's been super secretive about campus life, mentioning… more

Honestly, your cousin's being a bit dramatic. Secret societies at PolyU? Yeah, they exist, but it's not like some crazy, fight-to-the-death thing from a movie. Think more...old boys' clubs with a dash of tradition. Most of their activities are pretty low-key these days – maybe some internal events, a bit of networking. You won't stumble upon some hidden initiation ceremony or anything. Trying to get inside info is probably gonna be tough. These things are, well, secret. Your best bet is probably just asking your cousin casually – and maybe taking her out for a drink or some dim sum. Sometimes, a relaxed chat yields better results than prying. Good luck!

Quarry Bay's Hidden Trails?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So, I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week. I've heard it's got some amazing hiking trails tucked away, beyond the usual tourist spots. Anyone know about any lesser-known paths? I'm looking for somethi… more

Oof, Quarry Bay trails eh? Finding something challenging and shaded in that heat is a tall order. Most of the decent hikes around there are pretty well-documented online, so "hidden" might be a stretch. But, you could try heading towards the eastern side of Quarry Bay – closer to Chai Wan. The trails that snake up towards the hills there tend to be less crowded. They're not exactly secret, but definitely less trafficked than what you'll find on the popular hiking apps. Bring lots of water, though. Shade is going to be minimal, even in those less-trodden areas. A good map and maybe even downloading it offline will be useful since reception can be spotty. Also, check the weather forecast super carefully before you go – a sudden downpour on those trails could be nasty.
