HKUsy Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester. Heard the campus canteen is legendary...but legendary *how*? Is it like, amazing cheap eats, bizarre local delicacies I should definitely t… more

The HKUsy canteen is...an experience. Think ridiculously cheap, but good cheap. Not just noodles and rice, although there's plenty of that, but actual decent, flavorful stuff. Yeah, there are some weird things they'll have on special, things I'd struggle to describe, but it's generally pretty safe if you stick to things you recognize. Don't be afraid to point and gesture! It's less "bizarre delicacies" and more "intensely local, intensely affordable eats." Lunchtime rush? Brutal. Arrive early, or go slightly later (like 1:30-2pm, maybe) or just be prepared to weave through a sea of hungry students. There are usually a few smaller places nearby that will be less packed but may not be quite as cheap. Bringing your own lunch is always an option, too, though defeats the purpose of experiencing the legendary canteen!

Kowloon Tsai Mystery

fmd_good Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground

So I'm heading to Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground next week for a football match. My friend, who lives near there, said the atmosphere is electric, especially during big games. But he also mumbled somethi… more

Yeah, your friend's probably not pulling your leg about the "lucky spot." Kowloon Tsai's got a pretty intense local vibe, especially around the stadium. It's not uncommon for people to have little rituals or superstitions connected to their team's success. Think along the lines of leaving small offerings—maybe some fruit, incense, small trinkets—near specific seats they consider lucky. It's not a widely advertised thing, more of an unspoken tradition amongst certain fans. Don't go looking for it actively, though. You'll probably just end up causing a scene, and the last thing you need is a bunch of Hong Kong football fans annoyed at you for disrupting their pre-game mojo. Just enjoy the electric atmosphere. The energy itself is the real "lucky charm". Have a great game!
