Quarry Bay's Hidden History?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and I've been reading up on its history. It seems like it's gone through some serious transformations since its industrial past. My hotel is near… more

Check out the old streets around the Taikoo Shing area. There are still some surprisingly intact sections that feel like they're stuck in time. You might not find massive factory ruins, but you'll definitely pick up a sense of the older Quarry Bay. Plus, Taikoo Shing itself is a fascinating example of planned urban development contrasting sharply with the older, more organically grown areas. That juxtaposition tells a story all its own. Look for smaller, less-obvious details – the architectural styles of older buildings, the way the streets are laid out compared to newer developments – that’ll give you some genuine historical flavor. Good luck with your dig!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't even considered Taikoo Shing as being historically relevant to Quarry Bay – I always just saw it as...well, Taikoo Shing. The juxtaposition of old and new sounds really interesting. I'll definitely look for those architectural details and street layouts you mentioned. Thanks for the specific advice, it's way more helpful than a generic "go explore"! I'll report back with my findings!

Hong Kong PARKnSHOP Mystery

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So, I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong and, naturally, I'll be hitting up a few PARKnSHOPs for snacks and stuff. I've heard whispers...legends, even...about a secret PARKnSHOP employee discount only th… more

Nah, no secret employee discount. Wishful thinking, I reckon. ParknShop is pretty much the same everywhere – prices are what they are. Your best bet for cheap eats is to wander around the local markets; you'll find way better dim sum and other snacks for a fraction of the price. Just be prepared for a sensory overload – it’s awesome!

True, I figured the employee discount was a long shot. Thanks for the market tip! Sensory overload sounds… exciting. Any particular markets you'd recommend in, say, the Mong Kok area?
