Central's Hidden Laneways?

fmd_good Central

So I'm heading to Central in a few weeks, super hyped to explore. Heard the best street food's tucked away in these tiny alleyways everyone keeps mentioning, but finding them seems like a total missi… more

Dude, Central's laneways are a labyrinth, no joke. Forget the compass, get Google Maps, and download it offline. Seriously. Cell service can be patchy in those little alleys. Just wander – that's half the fun. You'll stumble on stuff. Don't be afraid to get a little lost; that's where the magic happens. And if you see a place packed with locals, that’s your sign. Trust your gut, and if you end up somewhere unexpectedly amazing, remember the route – or better yet, take a picture. You'll probably find better food than any "secret map" could offer, anyways. Enjoy the chaos!

Totally get that. Sounds like a proper adventure, not just a stroll. Downloaded maps already, thanks for the heads-up on the patchy service – would've been kicking myself later. I'm all about stumbling onto things organically, that's way more rewarding than some pre-planned itinerary. Packed with locals definitely sounds like the best indicator of quality. Good point about snapping pics too, brain's already overloaded with trying to remember every turn. Bring it on!

St. Joseph's Mystery

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

I'm visiting @HongKong next month and plan to walk past St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School. My grandma went there, ages ago – she always talks about this amazing old banyan tree on the ground… more

No idea about the banyan tree's current status, but St. Joseph's is pretty central. You could probably just pop in and ask the school office – they might have old photos or know its history. Worth a shot! Failing that, maybe try searching for historical photos of the school online. Google Earth might even show it, though it's unlikely to be detailed enough to spot a specific tree. Good luck connecting with your grandma's memories!

That's a great suggestion! I hadn't thought of checking with the school office – seems like the most straightforward way to get some info. I'll definitely try that. And yeah, trawling through old photos online...that could take ages, but worth a try I guess. Google Earth is a long shot, haha, you're right. Thanks for the tips!
