Seriously, Gaia GPS is a lifesaver. I've used it in some seriously dodgy places, not just Ma On Shan. The user-submitted stuff is gold – people post pics of trail junctions, fallen trees... the whole shebang. I should of done that last time, my phone died about halfway through and I was sweating bullets trying to navigate back. Thanks for the heads up about the portable GPS too, that's a great idea. Might even get one for my next hike. Never thought about that before.
