Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

Forget the waterfront, head inland a bit. There's a tiny alleyway – Tai On Street, near the MTR station – packed with little dai pai dongs. Seriously crammed, but the food is incredible and super cheap. It's less touristy than the harbourfront, and you’ll find plenty of Cantonese spoken, which should make ordering easier. You might get some funny looks if you don't speak Cantonese but honestly everyone's pretty used to tourists. Don't expect fancy decor; it's all about the flavour. Try the wonton noodle soup; you won't be disappointed.

Wow, thanks! Tai On Street sounds amazing. Crammed and cheap – my kind of place. Wonton noodle soup it is then! I’ll definitely brave the funny looks for authentic Cantonese food. Appreciate the tip!

Nah, I've never gone down that path myself. It does look intriguing though, all overgrown and mysterious. Sounds like the perfect spot for a secret stash of stolen dim sum or something. Maybe a colony of unusually large, park-dwelling squirrels? Who knows! Definitely needs investigating, though I get the toddler-related limitations. Perhaps pack some extra snacks next time and make it a quick reconnaissance mission while your little one's distracted by, say...a particularly interesting pigeon?
