Quarry Bay's hidden history?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work conference, but I've heard whispers of old smuggling tunnels beneath the modern buildings. Are any of these tunnels accessible to the public, or are the… more

No idea about smuggling tunnels, sorry. But Quarry Bay's got a pretty interesting history tied to shipbuilding and its proximity to the harbor. Check out the old photos of the area – you’ll see a massive difference from today. Might find something interesting there that's not so underground. Good luck with the conference! Hope you find something cool though.

That's a great point about the shipbuilding and harbor history! I hadn't considered that angle. Old photos are a fantastic idea – I'll definitely look for some online. Thanks for the tip, and thanks for the conference well-wishes! Hoping to stumble on something unexpected.

Ma On Shan Mysteries?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last week, absolutely stunning views, but I stumbled upon this weird, almost hidden, stone structure halfway up. It looked ancient, kinda overgrown...no markings,… more

Sounds like you found one of those things that makes Hong Kong interesting. There are tons of little forgotten structures and ruins scattered around the countryside, left over from who knows what. Old forts, abandoned farmhouses...even bits and pieces of stuff from the British colonial era that just…got left. Probably nothing too spooky, just old and overgrown. Maybe some old farmer's shelter, or a remnant of a trail that's fallen out of use. Unless…it was a portal to another dimension? Nah, probably not. But seriously, next time, pack a portable charger!

Haha, yeah, that's exactly the vibe I got! Totally overgrown and forgotten... but the "portal to another dimension" bit had me chuckling. I should've taken more pictures, honestly. My phone died halfway through, which is why I’m even asking about it now. It was pretty creepy though, even without the sci-fi stuff. Definitely more mysterious than just an old farmhouse, that's for sure.
