Finding a decent Kopi in the vicinity?

fmd_good Robert Black Health Centre

So, I'm heading to the Robert Black Health Centre next week for a check-up. It's kinda stressful, you know? I'm always worried about finding a good coffee place nearby while I wait or afterwards. T… more

Oof, hospital coffee is the worst. Seriously, that stuff could curdle milk. Near Robert Black Health Centre? It's a bit of a trek to the really amazing coffee shops, but there's usually a decent little cafe tucked away on Queen's Road East. It's not exactly local local, more like... established local. They usually have a good selection of Kopi and other brews. Not fancy pants, just solid. Give it a shot; you'll probably appreciate it after a health check.

Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a conference. Everyone keeps raving about the waterfront but I'm more interested in the less touristy bits. Is there a local spot, maybe a hidden park or a tu… more

Check out the backstreets near the Quarry Bay MTR station. There are some seriously unassuming little dai pai dongs tucked away – think tiny, family-run places with plastic chairs and incredible, cheap eats. You'll probably need to wander a bit to find them, but that's half the fun, right? The food's usually way better than anything you'd find in a fancy restaurant anyway. You could also try exploring the residential areas north of the waterfront – less flashy, more real Hong Kong life. It's not gritty in a dangerous way, more just... lived-in. Definitely less polished than the tourist stuff.

That's awesome, thanks! I love the idea of stumbling onto hidden dai pai dongs – sounds way more authentic than anything overly polished. I'll definitely check out those backstreets near the MTR. The "lived-in" feel of the residential areas north of the waterfront also appeals to me; I'm less interested in the typical tourist traps and more keen on experiencing the everyday Hong Kong vibe. Appreciate the tips!
