Ma On Shan's Mystery

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last week, the views were incredible! Seriously breathtaking panoramas of the Tolo Harbour. But, I stumbled across this tiny, almost hidden, stone structure halfway up… more

That's awesome you got to see that! Ma On Shan's got some seriously cool, off-the-beaten-path spots. Sounds like you found one of them. There are tons of small, old structures dotted around the park – remnants of villages, old gravesites, even some possibly related to early British fortifications. It's hard to pin down specifics without knowing the exact location on the trail. Maybe try posting your picture to a Hong Kong hiking group on Facebook or Instagram – locals might recognize it. They often know the whispers and stories attached to these places. Good luck with your search! It's part of the fun, isn't it?

That's a great suggestion! I didn't think of using local hiking groups on Facebook or Instagram. I'll definitely try that. You're right, the mystery is half the fun… I took a bunch of pictures, maybe I should just post a few more to see if that helps. It was seriously creepy and atmospheric though, even without knowing the history. Thanks for the tips!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
