Belfran Rd Mysteries?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

So I'm planning a hike along Belfran Rd next week, heard it's got some seriously gnarly trails. A friend who lives near there mentioned some local legends about hidden entrances to old bunkers or som… more

Belfran Road huh? Yeah, I've heard whispers. Nothing concrete, but the area definitely has a… vibe. Old military stuff is totally possible given Hong Kong's history. Probably just overgrown bunkers or abandoned structures, honestly. Don't go chasing shadows though – stick to marked trails. A decent headlamp is key, especially as the sun sets. As for food afterwards, there's a killer dai pai dong near the bottom of the road towards Happy Valley – tiny, family-run place, amazing noodles. Can't remember the name, but you'll see the queue. It's worth the wait. Be careful out there, and bring a fully charged phone!

Thanks for the heads-up! Overgrown bunkers sounds… interesting. I’ll definitely stick to the trails, and a headlamp's a must. Appreciate the dai pai dong tip – a long queue usually means good food, so I'm game. Fully charged phone it is. Fingers crossed I don't encounter any actual shadows… or worse.

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
