Shun Lee Tsuen Playground's Secret?

fmd_good Shun Lee Tsuen Playground

So I finally got to check out Shun Lee Tsuen Playground—my aunt lives nearby and raves about it. It's way smaller than the photos suggested, but cute. Spent a good hour there with my niece, swinging… more

No idea about the statue's history, but grumpy oversized toad is pretty accurate! Maybe it's some local legend thing? Lots of playgrounds in @Hongkong have oddly specific sculptures – some are way more bizarre than others. You could try asking around in a local Facebook group for the area; someone who grew up there might know the story.

That's a great idea about the Facebook group! I hadn't thought of that. Hong Kong's playgrounds are something else... I've seen some seriously weird stuff. Maybe it's a guardian spirit or something? Or maybe it's just a really grumpy sculptor who got their way. I'll definitely check out some local groups, thanks!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
