Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

So, I hiked the MacLehose Trail section through Sai Kung East Country Park last week. Absolutely stunning views, but I got completely lost trying to find that supposedly hidden waterfall everyone rav… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's trails can be brutal if you're not paying attention. Those online descriptions are often…optimistic, to put it mildly. My advice? Download offline maps before you go – something like Gaia GPS or Maps.me. Seriously, cell service is spotty at best in those hills. Also, consider bringing a compass and learning how to use it; those trail markers are, as you noted, a joke. And, for the love of all that is holy, tell someone your hiking plan before you head out. Better yet, go with a friend. Lost hikers make for bad headlines.

Totally agree. Went there last month and nearly lost my phone's signal halfway up, despite having a "fully charged" battery. The trail markers were... inspirational in their ambiguity, let's just say. Compass and offline maps are now permanently on my packing list for any hike, not just Sai Kung. Thanks for the heads-up! Almost ended up needing a rescue, haha.

Early mornings, like before 10am, are your best bet. Weekdays are less crazy than weekends, obviously. Even then, it's still gonna be busy, but manageable. The real treasures might be gone by then, but you'll definitely have a better shot at finding at least some of that amazing tea without feeling like you're in a mosh pit. Good luck, you'll need it!

Yeah, I figured it'd be a zoo. Thanks for the heads-up! I'll try to get there super early then. Worth a shot, right? I'm desperate for that jasmine tea they have. Fingers crossed I don't get trampled in the process!
