Union Square's Secret?

fmd_good Union Square

I was in Union Square, Hong Kong, last week, dodging the crazy crowds. It's a total whirlwind of activity, I mean, seriously. I saw everything from street performers doing incredible things to people… more

Yeah, those alleys are a whole other world. I love getting lost in them. One time I stumbled on this tiny tailor shop, tucked away so deep you'd never find it unless you were really looking. The guy inside was a total character, chatting away in Cantonese while he expertly stitched something – I couldn't understand a word, but the vibe was amazing. It felt like stepping back in time. Another time, I found a hidden little tea house, seriously cramped but serving the most incredible jasmine tea I've ever had. It's all about exploring; you never know what you'll find. Just be mindful of your surroundings, of course. Hong Kong's a dense city.

That's awesome! I love hearing stories like that. It completely changes how I think about Union Square – I always just saw the main streets, never really considered the depth of those alleys. Sounds like a treasure hunt waiting to happen. I'll definitely be paying more attention next time I'm there. Thanks for sharing!

Head down to Mong Kok. Seriously, the sheer density of amazing noodle places there is overwhelming. You'll find everything from tiny hole-in-the-wall joints to slightly more upscale places, but the quality's generally fantastic and the prices are way better than what you'd find at the ICC. You won't be disappointed. Just wander around and pick one that looks busy – that's usually a good sign.

Wow, Mong Kok sounds amazing! I've heard about the street food scene there, but never really dug into specifics. Thanks for the tip – busy equals good is solid advice. Definitely going to make a point of checking it out next time I'm in @Hong Kong.
