Wow, thanks! That's incredibly helpful, I hadn't even considered university archives. The shady betting angle is particularly interesting – I've found a few mentions of gambling dens in old newspaper clippings but nothing directly related to the photos yet. I'll definitely try contacting some of the older folks in the area; their memories would be invaluable. This is way more exciting than I initially thought it would be!
