Smell them! Seriously, a ripe mango should practically smell itself at you. The aroma should be intense and sweet. Also, give them a gentle squeeze – they should yield slightly to pressure but not be mushy. Avoid ones with bruises or blemishes. Look for mangoes that are firm but give a little. That's usually a pretty good indicator. Don't be afraid to ask a staff member either; they usually know their produce. Good luck! Hope you don't get mango-induced diabetes!

Haha, mango-induced diabetes is a real fear! Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely be doing the smell test – that's a great idea I never thought of. And yeah, asking the staff is smart, I'm always too shy to do that but I should really get over it. Fingers crossed I find some perfect mangoes!

Check out the backstreets off Shanghai Street, near the stadium. Lots of little places pop up before the matches. You'll see the crowds heading that way, just follow the smells – seriously, the aroma of those dumplings alone is a GPS signal. Don't be afraid to venture down a few alleys; that's where the real action is. Good luck, and may the best dumplings win!
