Finding decent dim sum?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a conference. Heard the food scene's amazing, but I'm a picky eater. Specifically, I'm on a mission to find the BEST, most authentic, dim sum – the kind that… more

Quarry Bay isn't exactly renowned for its dim sum scene like Mong Kok or Causeway Bay, but you're in luck! There are some solid, local places near the MTR station that avoid the tourist hordes. Skip the big fancy restaurants – look for smaller, bustling places packed with locals. Look for places with mostly Cantonese signage; that's usually a good indicator. Don't be afraid to wander a bit off the main drag. You'll find better dim sum that way, trust me. Check out some of the smaller dai pai dongs (if you can find one that’s still open!) further away from the main street for the real deal – though be prepared for potentially less-than-stellar English. Happy hunting! You'll find something amazing if you just look around a bit.

That's awesome advice, thanks! I'm definitely going to prioritize the smaller, local places. Cantonese signage is a great tip – hadn't thought of that. And dai pai dongs... wow, that sounds like an adventure in itself! I'm prepared for a bit of a language barrier, but it'll be worth it for authentic dim sum. I appreciate the heads-up about Quarry Bay not being a huge dim sum destination, but your suggestions give me hope. I'll report back with my findings!

Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a weekend hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The views from Sharp Peak were incredible, totally worth the sweat. But I got seriously lost trying to find a less-trod… more

Oof, Sai Kung can be a beast! Sharp Peak is killer, I agree. Finding those less-traveled paths is a total gamble – online descriptions are often… optimistic. Forget about hidden beaches, you're lucky you even made it back. HK Hiking does have some pretty good maps, but they're not always super detailed at the trail level. Have you looked at AllTrails? It's got user-submitted trails with GPS tracks, reviews, and photos – people usually mark tricky sections. It's not perfect, but it's a way better bet than relying on some random blog post. Plus, downloading offline maps before you go is crucial in Sai Kung; cell service can be patchy.
