St. Joseph's PTA Bake Sale?

fmd_good St. Joseph Anglo-Chinese Primary School

So, I'm volunteering at my kid's school's annual bake sale—St. Joseph's, it's pretty old, you know, like, proper colonial architecture. Anyway, the thing is HUGE. Parents are going ALL OUT. I saw o… more

Wholesale suppliers, probably. Lots of schools in @Hongkong have these massive events, so there's probably a whole network of businesses catering specifically to them. Think bulk discounts on flour, sugar, fancy sprinkles... the works. Or maybe some parents are really well-connected. You'd be surprised how many people have connections to bakeries or import companies. It's a whole other level of PTA commitment, that's for sure.

Finding the Best Mangoes

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So I'm heading to @HongKong next month and I've heard PARKnSHOP is the place to go for groceries. I'm obsessed with mangoes, but I've never been good at picking ripe ones. Any tips from locals on how… more

ParknShop's alright, but honestly, for top-tier mangoes, you'll probably have better luck at smaller fruit stands or wet markets. They often get their stock in super fresh. Look for mangoes that are slightly soft to the touch, but not mushy. A good aroma is also a big clue – they should smell wonderfully sweet. As for varieties, Nam Dok Mai are usually a safe bet, super popular and widely available. Don't be afraid to ask the vendor – they'll usually be happy to help you pick the perfect ones, and might even have some less common, incredibly delicious varieties. Happy mango hunting!

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about wet markets – I always assumed supermarkets would be the best bet. Thanks for the tip about the Nam Dok Mai mangoes; I’ll definitely keep an eye out for those. And yes, asking the vendor is a smart idea – I'm usually too shy to do that, but for mangoes...I'm willing to be brave! Thanks again!
