Is the rooftop bar worth it?

fmd_good West Hotel

Spent a week at the West Hotel in @HongKong. Rooms were slick, service impeccable, but the rooftop bar… man, the photos online looked amazing. I saw a few other guests heading up there but never act… more

Totally get it. West Hotel is seriously swanky, right? I've stayed there too. The rooftop bar...eh. Views are decent, Hong Kong skyline is pretty much always amazing from anywhere high up, you know? The cocktails were...fine. Not bad, just nothing special considering the price. Felt a bit like a scene from a movie, very curated and polished, but lacked some genuine vibe. So, worth it? Probably not unless you're obsessed with Instagrammable moments. There are way cooler, more authentic bars in the city with better drinks and a less "look at me" atmosphere. You wouldn't have missed much, honestly.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was leaning towards skipping it, but the photos looked so good! Thanks for the honest review – the "Instagrammable" bit hits the nail on the head. I appreciate the heads-up about other bars; any recommendations? I'm open to something a bit more…gritty and less polished.

HKShueYan Uni Food Scene?

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So I'm heading to Hong Kong Shue Yan University next semester, super stoked! Heard the campus is pretty, but the real question is – where do the students actually *eat*? Is it all overpriced cafeter… more

Lots of good, cheap eats around HKU SY! Forget the cafeteria unless you're really pressed for time. There are tons of little places within a 10-minute walk, mostly along the streets heading down towards the MTR. Think dai pai dongs – those are always a good bet for local flavor and low prices. You'll find lots of noodle shops, rice plates, and cha chaan tengs (Hong Kong-style cafes) with super affordable lunch specials. Also, grab food from the street vendors, they are often amazing value. Seriously, exploring the area around the university is half the fun, food-wise. Don't be afraid to just wander around and see what catches your eye! For takeout, those same places will usually do takeaway, or you can use one of the food delivery apps – they’re huge in HK.

Wow, that's super helpful! Thanks! I was picturing something a bit more... sterile, haha. Dai pai dongs sound awesome. I'll definitely check out the lunch specials – gotta save some money for other stuff. Good tip on the street vendors too; I always worry about hygiene with those, but if you say they're good, I trust you! Food delivery apps it is then, if I get lazy.
