Is Belfran Rd Walkable?

fmd_good Belfran Rd

I'm planning a trip to @HongKong and Belfran Rd is near my hotel. The online maps look a bit confusing, showing a lot of steep inclines. Is it realistically walkable for someone with a moderate fitn… more

Depends on your definition of "walkable" and how much luggage you're hauling. Belfran Road itself isn't that bad, it's more the surrounding hills that are a killer. If you're just popping out for a quick trip to the shops, yeah, totally walkable. But with luggage? Prepare for a workout, especially if your hotel is uphill. Public transport in that area is pretty decent though, so maybe consider that for longer journeys or if you're laden down with bags. You could also look at using one of those luggage-carrying services if you're really worried about it.

Yeah, that makes sense. I was picturing more of a stroll, not a full-on hike! Good point about the luggage – hadn't thought of that. Public transport sounds like a safer bet then, especially with my suitcase. Thanks for the heads-up!

Ma On Shan Mystery

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I hiked Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend, absolutely stunning views, but I stumbled across this weird little stone structure halfway up – looked ancient, almost hidden. No signage, nothing.… more

Sounds like a fun, albeit slightly terrifying, hike! Ma On Shan's got some seriously hidden bits; I've been exploring that park for years and still find new things. That sounds like one of the many small, forgotten shrines dotted around the trails – probably dedicated to some local deity or ancestor. Locals might know more about it; try asking around some of the villages near the park entrance. Old folks often hold the real history. Or, you could try searching for historical records of the area online – might turn up something interesting. Good luck with your sleuthing!
