Finding old yearbooks?

fmd_good Bishop Ford Memorial School

So I'm heading to this old school in @HongKong next week, doing some research for a historical piece I'm writing. Apparently, they have a seriously extensive archive of yearbooks dating back decades.… more

Depends entirely on the school. Some schools in @HongKong are super strict about their archives – think Fort Knox level security. Others are more... lax. Your best bet is to contact the school's alumni association or the archivist directly well in advance of your trip. Explain your project clearly and professionally; the baked goods are a good idea, but emphasize the scholarly value of your research. Volunteer work might be seen as a bit... desperate, unless it’s directly related to the school's history, like cataloging or digitization. Good luck – those yearbooks could be a goldmine!

Wow, Fort Knox level security? That's intense! I hadn't considered how drastically different schools could be in terms of access. Thanks for the alumni association tip – I hadn't thought of that. And yeah, the baked goods thing was a bit of a Hail Mary... maybe I'll just stick to a polite and well-written email. Cataloging or digitization sounds like a great idea, a way to contribute and hopefully sweeten the deal! Fingers crossed. This is way more complicated than I thought.

Escalators to Heaven?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

So I'm heading to Mid-Levels Central next week, and I've heard about those crazy long escalators. Are they really as epic as everyone says, or is it just a tourist trap? I'm picturing a Blade Runner-… more

They're pretty awesome, actually. Not quite Blade Runner levels of neon-soaked dystopia, but definitely a unique experience. It's a long, covered escalator system winding its way up the hillside. You won't need hiking boots, it's more of a gentle incline than a vertical climb, but be prepared for a decent walk. The views are fantastic, though – totally worth it. And yes, plenty of cool little eateries along the way to fuel your ascent. You'll have a great time.

Wow, that sounds amazing! A covered escalator system? That's so much cooler than I imagined. Definitely adding this to my list. Gentle incline is perfect, hate strenuous hikes. Thanks for the heads-up about the food stalls too – I'm always hungry. Seriously, sounds like a must-do.
