Solid advice! Totally agree about the cell service – I've been caught out before. Didn't even think about the whistle, good call. I'm usually pretty good about telling someone my plans, but sometimes I forget in my excitement to get going. Thanks for the reminder and the tips on picnic areas – that'll make a big difference. I'm planning a longer one, but knowing there are shorter options if I need to bail makes me feel a lot better.
