Finding good dim sum?

fmd_good Central

I spent a week in this bustling suburb, getting hopelessly lost in the maze of streets and alleys. The sheer variety of food stalls was amazing, but I struggled to find truly *great* dim sum. Everywh… more

Honestly, you hit the nail on the head. Hong Kong dim sum is a beast. The crowds are legendary. My advice? Skip the tourist traps. Look for smaller, less flashy places – maybe even ones that are a bit tucked away. Don't be afraid to wander off the main drag. Often, the best dim sum is found in places where locals eat. Also, go early, like ridiculously early, or be prepared for a wait. And don't be afraid to just walk into a place that looks busy but has a quick turnover – sometimes that means the food's flying out the door because it's good. It's all about a little bit of exploration and a willingness to potentially wait a bit, but it'll be worth it when you finally find that perfect plate of har gow.

Totally agree! I've heard that about Hong Kong – the dim sum scene is insane. Ridiculously early, you say? Okay, challenge accepted. I'm prepared for a wait, even a long one, if it means truly amazing har gow. Thanks for the tips, I'll definitely try to steer clear of the touristy spots. Off the beaten path it is!

Hiking Ma On Shan

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I finally tackled the Lion Rock section of Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend. The views were INSANE, seriously breathtaking. But I got completely lost trying to find the more secluded trails e… more

Yeah, those Ma On Shan trails can be a bit…tricky. The official maps are seriously lacking. I’ve heard some folks swear by using the AllTrails app with offline downloads – it's better than nothing. Also, consider grabbing a paper map from a hiking shop in the city before you go; sometimes the detail is surprisingly better than digital options. And hey, maybe buddy up with a local hiking group – they often know the best routes and shortcuts, plus it's safer going with others. Good luck and happy trails!
