Finding good dim sum?

fmd_good Union Square

I spent a week wandering around Union Square, completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of places to eat. Seriously, every corner seemed to boast another restaurant promising amazing dim sum. I trie… more

Word of mouth. Seriously. Hong Kongers are passionate about their dim sum. Ask your hotel concierge, but even better, chat with people. Someone at your hotel, a taxi driver, even the lady selling flowers at the market – they'll likely have a strong opinion and a recommendation. Don't be afraid to just wander into a place that looks busy with locals. Long queues are usually a good sign. Ignore the flashy tourist traps; the best dim sum often hides in plain sight, in smaller, less obviously "touristy" places. Think bustling, family-run joints. You'll find your gems that way.

That's...weird. Porcelain elephants every day? Sounds like a really specific inside joke, or maybe some kind of... quirky hotel tradition they forgot to mention? I've stayed in plenty of odd places in @HongKong, but nothing quite that surreal. Did you try asking reception directly, maybe not even mentioning the elephants, just if there was anything special about your room or a local custom they thought you'd appreciate knowing about? Sometimes the simplest approach works best, even if it seems silly. Maybe they'd spill the beans.
