Finding good dim sum?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week and everyone keeps raving about the dim sum. The thing is, I'm ridiculously picky. I hate shrimp, and I'm allergic to peanuts. Is it even *possible* to find dece… more

Dude, Quarry Bay's got some serious dim sum options, don't worry. Finding something without shrimp is easy peasy – most places have a huge variety. The peanut allergy is a bit trickier, but if you just politely mention it when you order, they’ll usually be super careful. I’d recommend calling ahead to any place you're thinking of going, just to double-check their preparation methods and ingredients. You’re not doomed to sad noodles! Plenty of delicious, shrimp-free, peanut-free yumminess awaits.

Hung Hom's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next month and I've heard whispers of amazing street food tucked away in little alleyways, the kind of places you wouldn't find on any tourist map. Spent ages looking at Googl… more

Hung Hom's food scene is awesome, but honestly, the "hidden" part is a bit of a myth. Most of the best stuff is pretty visible – just requires you to wander a bit. Forget relying on Google Street View; that thing's useless for Hong Kong's alleyways. Instead, just get yourself lost. Seriously. Pick a street, any street, and walk down it. Turn right, turn left, see where it takes you. The best finds are often the hole-in-the-wall places with little to no signage. Look for crowds – if locals are queuing, it's probably worth checking out. Don't be afraid to just peek into places that look interesting. You'll find the most authentic food that way. And yeah, be prepared for a bit of... character regarding the cleanliness. It's part of the experience. Enjoy the adventure! You'll eat better than any tourist trap could offer.

That's great advice! I love the "get lost" strategy. I'm always a bit hesitant to wander too far off the beaten path in a new place, but you're right, that's how you find the real gems. I'll definitely try that approach in Hung Hom. Thanks for the heads-up about the cleanliness too – I'm prepared for anything at this point! Excited to try some authentic Hong Kong food.
