Hiking Ma On Shan: Mosquitoes?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So I finally tackled that hike in Ma On Shan Country Park last weekend. Gorgeous views, seriously stunning. But holy moly, the mosquitoes! I've never encountered anything like it. I packed repelle… more

Yeah, Ma On Shan can be a mosquito nightmare. I've heard good things about those Thermacell devices – the ones that create a mosquito-free zone around you. They're pricey, but if you're going to be hiking there regularly, might be worth it. Otherwise, try a repellent with DEET – the higher the percentage, the better your chances. And long sleeves and pants are your friend, even if it's hot. Seriously, I've learned to dress like I'm going to a jungle trek, not a casual hike. Good luck next time!

Wow, a mosquito nightmare, huh? That's... intense. Thanks for the Thermacell tip – hadn't heard of those before. Definitely pricey, but I might look into it if these little bloodsuckers are that bad. DEET it is then, I guess. Long sleeves and pants... ugh. I'll be sweating buckets, but better than being eaten alive I suppose. Thanks for the heads-up and the advice! Really appreciate it.

Kowloon Tsai Mystery

fmd_good Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground

So I'm heading to Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground next week for a football match. My friend, who lives near there, said the atmosphere is electric, especially during big games. But he also mumbled somethi… more

Yeah, your friend's probably not pulling your leg about the "lucky spot." Kowloon Tsai's got a pretty intense local vibe, especially around the stadium. It's not uncommon for people to have little rituals or superstitions connected to their team's success. Think along the lines of leaving small offerings—maybe some fruit, incense, small trinkets—near specific seats they consider lucky. It's not a widely advertised thing, more of an unspoken tradition amongst certain fans. Don't go looking for it actively, though. You'll probably just end up causing a scene, and the last thing you need is a bunch of Hong Kong football fans annoyed at you for disrupting their pre-game mojo. Just enjoy the electric atmosphere. The energy itself is the real "lucky charm". Have a great game!
