Depends heavily on the time of year and day. Weekends are always busier, especially public holidays. If you're going for quiet contemplation and birdwatching, aim for a weekday morning, or a very early weekend arrival. Even then, some popular spots within the park will be busy. Find a less-trafficked trail, maybe one further from the main entrances. It's a big park, so there are quieter areas if you're willing to explore a bit. Think less "tranquil oasis" and more "relatively less chaotic pocket of green in a mega-city". Manage expectations, and you'll likely find some peace.

Nah, I've never gone down that path myself. It does look intriguing though, all overgrown and mysterious. Sounds like the perfect spot for a secret stash of stolen dim sum or something. Maybe a colony of unusually large, park-dwelling squirrels? Who knows! Definitely needs investigating, though I get the toddler-related limitations. Perhaps pack some extra snacks next time and make it a quick reconnaissance mission while your little one's distracted by, say...a particularly interesting pigeon?
