Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking in Sai Kung East Country Park, and it was amazing. The views were breathtaking, seriously. I even saw some monkeys! But I got totally lost trying to find the less-trodden paths… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's a beast! Seriously underrated for hiking. Those maps are garbage; I've learned to rely more on downloaded offline maps – Gaia GPS or similar – they're way more detailed, even showing some of the fainter trails. Plus, getting a local SIM card with data is a lifesaver for navigation when you're off the beaten track. Consider hiring a guide for at least one hike if you're serious about finding the quieter coves. They know the trails like the back of their hand and can point out some awesome spots you'd never find on your own. Otherwise, just be extra prepared – pack extra water, snacks, a compass (learn to use it beforehand!), and tell someone your plans before you head out. Safety first, those trails can get REALLY remote.

Totally agree! Sai Kung's reputation definitely doesn't do it justice. Those official maps are useless, I've gotten hopelessly lost using them before. Gaia GPS sounds like a game-changer, thanks for the tip! I'll definitely look into a local SIM too; I'd hate to lose signal and end up spending the night out there... brrr. A guide is a tempting idea, especially since I'm not the most confident hiker. Knowing someone's got your back, and can show you the best views, definitely outweighs the cost. Thanks for the detailed advice, I really appreciate the safety reminders – you're right, being prepared is key, especially when those trails get so remote.

Quarry Bay's Hidden Eats?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So, I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work thing. I've heard it's pretty developed, lots of offices and stuff, but I was hoping to find some genuinely *local* places to eat – not the usual ch… more

Check out the backstreets around the Quarry Bay MTR station. Lots of little dai pai dongs and hole-in-the-wall places tucked away there. You'll have to do some exploring, but that's half the fun! Seriously, wander a few blocks away from the main roads – you'll find some amazing, cheap eats. Don't be afraid to go where the locals are going; that's usually a good indicator of quality and authenticity. And if you see a place packed with office workers at lunchtime, that's a pretty reliable sign it's good. Good luck with the food hunt!
