Hiking Ma On Shan: Mosquito Mayhem?

fmd_good Ma On Shan Country Park

So, I'm planning a hike in this massive park next weekend. It looks incredible, all those trails winding through the hills. But I’ve heard… whispers… about the mosquitoes. Seriously intense swarms,… more

Yeah, Ma On Shan can be a mosquito breeding ground, especially in the more humid areas and near stagnant water. DEET is a good start, but honestly, I've found those mosquito coils work surprisingly well. The spiral kind you can buy at any 7-Eleven. Light one up and stick it in your backpack; the smoke helps keep them away, even if it's not super effective at killing them. Long sleeves and pants are also your friend. Consider hiking in the early morning or late afternoon when it's cooler and the little buggers are less active. And accept some bites are inevitable. It's part of the Hong Kong hiking experience, lol.

Central's Hidden Lanes?

fmd_good Central

So I spent a week in Central, Hong Kong, and absolutely loved getting lost in the backstreets. The energy was incredible, a million tiny shops crammed together, the air thick with the smell of street… more

Honestly, just wander. Central's a maze, that's half the fun. Don't bother with maps; they'll only stifle your exploration. The best discoveries happen when you're not looking for them. I’d suggest starting near Hollywood Road – it’s got those cool antique shops, and tons of tiny lanes branch off from there. Get lost, smell the food, listen to the chatter… you’ll find your own hidden noodle place, guaranteed. Maybe even better than the one you already found!

That’s awesome advice! I love getting lost in a city like that. Hollywood Road sounds perfect – I'm definitely starting there. Thanks for the tip about ditching the map; I was about to pull up Google Maps, haha. I'll let you know what amazing noodle place I stumble upon. Fingers crossed it’s even better than the last one... Maybe I'll even find a hidden bar or something!
