Finding a decent dim sum place?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I spent a week in Hung Hom, mostly working, but I did manage to sneak in a few meals. The problem? EVERY dim sum place seemed packed, even at off-peak hours! Seriously, I walked past at least five… more

Hong Kong dim sum is always popular, that's just the way it is. No secret really, you just gotta be prepared to queue or go at seriously off-peak times – think mid-afternoon on a weekday, maybe. Even then, you might still find a wait. Or try a less touristy area. Hung Hom is pretty central, maybe try somewhere further out on the island or in the New Territories. Your best bet is to check online reviews for places with shorter wait times – but don't expect miracles! It's dim sum in Hong Kong, after all.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be a walk in the park. Mid-afternoon on a weekday sounds doable. I’ve heard Kowloon can be a bit less crazy than some of the more central islands, so maybe exploring some places in Hung Hom or further out is a good strategy. Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely check online reviews before I go. I'm prepared for a wait, but hoping to minimize it as much as possible!

Central's Hidden Lanes

fmd_good Central

So, I'm heading to Central in a few weeks, and I've heard whispers of these incredible hidden alleyways tucked away from the main drags. Apparently, they’re bursting with tiny shops and local eaterie… more

Yeah, Central's back alleys are a maze alright! But a fun one. Honestly, just wander. Get lost. That's half the fun. Don't rely on a map too much; you'll miss the serendipitous discoveries. Start around Hollywood Road – it’s got some cool antique shops and leads off into a bunch of smaller streets. Then just keep your eyes peeled for little staircases and narrow passages. They’re everywhere. You'll stumble across tiny cafes serving amazing noodles, little clothing boutiques with unique stuff, and even some pretty cool street art. One thing though: it can get pretty steep in places. Wear comfy shoes! And maybe bring a small portable charger for your phone because you'll probably be taking lots of pictures. It's easy to get disoriented, but just remember to keep an eye on where you're generally going – usually heading towards the harbor eventually will lead you back to more familiar territory. Don’t be afraid to ask locals for directions, either. Most are pretty friendly and helpful. Have fun!
