Finding good dim sum?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next week and, honestly, the sheer number of dim sum places is overwhelming. My friend, a local, swears by one hidden down a tiny alleyway – said it's run by a family who've… more

Hung Hom's got a TON of dim sum places, you're right. Forget the alleyway whisperings – those are usually just marketing legends. Instead, look for places that are busy with locals, not just tourists. Check out the menus – authentic places usually have a wider variety of less-common dim sum dishes, and the prices might be a little higher, but it's a good sign. Also, don't be afraid to wander a bit off the main drags. Sometimes, the best places are tucked away on quieter side streets. And finally, trust your gut – if a place feels too touristy or the menu is all in English with pictures, you might wanna keep looking. Good luck! You'll find something amazing.

That's great advice! I hadn't thought about the local/tourist ratio – makes total sense. Higher prices and a wider variety on the menu are definitely things I'll be looking out for. Thanks for the tips, I'm heading to Hung Hom tomorrow and will report back on my dim sum adventure!

Bulk buying, probably. And ridiculously efficient logistics. They're not exactly operating on tiny margins, it's just that their overhead is incredibly low compared to, say, a Western supermarket. Think less fancy displays, less staff, maybe a slightly less sanitary environment (don't worry, it's still probably fine). It's the Hong Kong way – get it done, get it cheap.
