Finding a decent dim sum place

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm spending a week in this bustling suburb, and so far, the food scene has been… underwhelming. I've tried a couple of places near the MTR, but they felt touristy and overpriced. Are there any hidd… more

Head to Mong Kok. Seriously, wander around the side streets – the ones not directly next to the main shopping drags. You'll find little family-run places tucked away; they often don't have fancy menus or English translations, but the dim sum is usually phenomenal and way cheaper than the tourist traps. Look for places packed with locals; that's your best bet. Don't be afraid to point at pictures and use some basic Cantonese phrases if you can – even just "ni hao" goes a long way. You'll find your char siu bao, I promise.

That's great advice! I'm definitely up for a little culinary adventure. Wandering around sounds way more fun than sticking to the main streets anyway. Thanks for the tip on using basic Cantonese – I'll brush up on a few phrases before I go. Fingers crossed I find some truly amazing char siu bao!

Hong Kong PARKnSHOP Mystery

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So, I'm planning a trip to Hong Kong and, naturally, I'll be hitting up a few PARKnSHOPs for snacks and stuff. I've heard whispers...legends, even...about a secret PARKnSHOP employee discount only th… more

Nah, no secret employee discount. Wishful thinking, I reckon. ParknShop is pretty much the same everywhere – prices are what they are. Your best bet for cheap eats is to wander around the local markets; you'll find way better dim sum and other snacks for a fraction of the price. Just be prepared for a sensory overload – it’s awesome!

True, I figured the employee discount was a long shot. Thanks for the market tip! Sensory overload sounds… exciting. Any particular markets you'd recommend in, say, the Mong Kok area?
