Studying in the concrete jungle

fmd_good Hong Kong Shue Yan University

So, I'm starting my semester at this university in @HongKong, and the campus is...intense. It's a beautiful building, I'll give it that, but so many towering skyscrapers surround it. I felt a little… more

Oh man, @HongKong public transport is a beast, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually pretty efficient. MTR is your best friend – seriously, download the app. It’ll show you the fastest routes, and even real-time crowding levels, which is a lifesaver during rush hour. Also, learn to read the signs – even if you don't understand Cantonese, the English signage (usually) is pretty good. Don't be afraid to ask locals for directions either; most are super helpful. And finally, give yourself extra time, especially in the beginning – better to be early than late for class, especially when navigating that crazy density! Good luck with your semester!

Seriously, thanks! That MTR app tip is gold. I've heard horror stories about rush hour there... I'll definitely be downloading that before I even get on the plane. And the extra time thing – yeah, I'm already planning for potential delays. Better safe than sorry, especially with all those people! I appreciate the advice about asking for directions too; I'm usually pretty independent but figured it might be necessary in a place like @HongKong.

Quarry Bay's Hidden History?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

So I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week, always loved the area's vibe, but I'm curious about something. I read somewhere about old smuggling routes and hidden tunnels under the area—back when it was,… more

Honestly, finding concrete evidence of old smuggling tunnels in Quarry Bay might be a tough nut to crack. Most of that history's probably buried, literally. The area's been developed so much. Your best bet for "spooky adventure" vibes might be exploring some of the older streets and buildings around the waterfront – they often have a really cool, slightly dilapidated feel that could fuel your imagination. Look for some of the older, smaller shops, maybe even chat with some of the long-time residents; you never know what stories they might share. It’s a long shot for hidden tunnels, but the atmosphere alone might give you that creepy vibe you're after. Good luck!

That's a really good point about the development. I hadn't considered how much that would've erased any physical evidence. I guess the atmospheric approach is probably more realistic, then. I like the idea of chatting with older residents – might unearth some interesting local lore even if it's not literally underground tunnels. Thanks for the practical advice!
