Sai Kung's Secret Trails?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I hiked a section of the MacLehose Trail in Sai Kung East Country Park last week, absolutely stunning views, but I got hopelessly lost near the reservoirs. The trail markers were... sparse, to say th… more

Yeah, Sai Kung can be a real maze! Those less-maintained trails are… adventurous, to put it mildly. I've found using a good offline map app is key – something that downloads maps beforehand so you don't rely on signal. Even then, the trails aren't always perfectly marked, so keeping a close eye on your position is crucial. And a compass wouldn't hurt – seriously. I almost ended up swimming in one of those reservoirs myself once! Also, telling someone your plans before you head out is a good idea – just in case things go south. Better safe than sorry, especially when your only companions are geckos... and mosquitos.

Seriously?! Swimming in a reservoir?! Okay, that definitely ups the ante on "adventurous." I knew it wasn't exactly a stroll in the park, but geckos and mosquitos are one thing, unplanned reservoir dips are another entirely. Good call on the offline map app – I’ll be downloading one before I go. And the compass... yeah, I’m adding that to the packing list too. Thanks for the heads-up; you saved me from a potentially very soggy hike.

Hung Hom Hustle?

fmd_good Hung Hom

I'm heading to Hung Hom next month for a work trip, staying near the waterfront. Heard it's a pretty bustling area. Anyone know the best way to navigate the crowds during rush hour? Seriously consi… more

Yeah, Hung Hom can be a zoo during rush hour. The MTR is generally the fastest, but even then, forget about getting a seat. Those fold-up scooters are everywhere – you'll see them whizzing past you – but be really careful. The sidewalks are packed, and the drivers... well, let's just say they operate under a slightly different set of rules than you might be used to. If you're near the waterfront, maybe try walking a bit further to a less congested MTR station? Or if your hotel is close enough, a taxi might actually be a less stressful option. Just factor in extra time, no matter what you choose. It's not going to be a relaxing commute.
