Finding Decent Mangoes?

fmd_good PARKnSHOP

So I was in this PARKnSHOP, right? Needed mangoes for a mango sticky rice recipe I was trying. The selection was… vast. Like, rows and rows. But honestly, picking good mangoes is harder than it loo… more

Honestly, you're not alone. Picking mangoes is a dark art. I usually give them a gentle squeeze – a ripe one will yield slightly to pressure but not be mushy. Avoid anything that feels rock hard or has any significant bruising. And look at the skin; a nice golden yellow (or reddish, depending on the variety) with a slight blush is usually a good sign. If they're green, they're definitely not ready. Even with all that, it's a bit of a gamble sometimes. Maybe next time try a smaller, more specialized fruit store; they might have better quality control.

Yeah, that's pretty much my experience too. It's like Russian roulette with mangoes sometimes! I've gotten so many rock-hard ones that I swear they could crack a window. A smaller store is a great idea, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!

Shattered Hip, Anyone?

fmd_good Robert Black Health Centre

So, I'm visiting my aunt in @HongKong and she's been admitted to the Robert Black Health Centre. It's… a bit older than some of the hospitals I've seen. The staff seem nice enough, but the waiting r… more

Oof, that sounds rough. Hospital food is universally awful, isn't it? Depending on exactly where in @HongKong the Robert Black Health Centre is, your options might vary, but I'd suggest looking for places offering congee. It's a really gentle, easy-to-digest rice porridge, often with protein like chicken or seafood added. Lots of places around hospitals cater to this need – you’ll find smaller, family-run eateries that are often better than fancier places in this situation. Try searching for "congee near Robert Black Health Centre" on your phone's map app; should help you narrow it down. Hope your aunt recovers quickly!

Thanks so much! That's incredibly helpful. I hadn't even considered congee, but that sounds perfect. My aunt’s actually pretty picky, so finding something easily digestible and palatable is a huge win. I'll definitely use that search tip. Appreciate the quick and thoughtful advice!
