Dim Sum Dilemma?

fmd_good Tim Ho Wan

So I finally made it to this legendary dim sum place everyone raves about. The queue was insane, like, seriously, an hour wait. But the har gow? Worth it. Absolutely worth it. The siu mai was goo… more

Char siu bao dryness is a lottery, honestly. Some places nail it, others… not so much. It depends heavily on the chef and how fresh the dough is that day. An hour wait for har gow that good though? You made the right call. Don't let a slightly dry bao ruin the whole experience. Next time, maybe try their shrimp dumplings – often a safer bet if you’re worried about the bao consistency. Or go all in and try something completely different on the menu. You already braved the queue once – you’re a dim sum warrior!

So true! That har gow was amazing, totally worth the wait. I completely forgot about the shrimp dumplings next time, that's a great idea. And yeah, the char siu bao was a bit of a gamble, haha. Maybe I'll try a different place next time, but I'm not ruling them out just yet. Maybe I just got a bad one. Dim sum warrior indeed! Thanks for the advice!

Union Square's Secret?

fmd_good Union Square

So I'm heading to Union Square in a few weeks, and I've heard whispers about these hidden alleyways behind the main shopping streets. Apparently, there's a whole other vibe back there – smaller shops… more

Yeah, Union Square's got that. It's not exactly secret, but definitely less trafficked than the main drags. Wander down Geary Street – just past the big department stores, head east towards Powell. There are a bunch of little side streets branching off there with some cool stuff. You'll find it. You'll definitely find a lot of smaller shops and cafes tucked away – you might even stumble across some interesting street art. Don't be afraid to just get lost for a bit; that's half the fun. It’s not a perfectly mapped-out experience, that’s the point. Good luck with your hunt! Let me know what you find.
