Best Dim Sum Spot?

fmd_good MingGarden Restaurant

I'm heading to this amazing-looking restaurant next week, apparently famous for its dim sum. The pictures online look incredible, but I'm a bit of a picky eater. Anyone know if they cater to folks… more

Depends on what you consider "safe." Most dim sum places will have har gow (prawn dumplings), siu mai (pork dumplings), and char siu bao (barbecue pork buns). Those are pretty standard and usually easy to identify. If the restaurant's online menu shows pictures, check those out first. If it's that amazing-looking, I'm guessing they have some basic options. Worst case scenario, you can always politely ask a server for recommendations if something looks…unidentifiable. They'll probably be happy to help!

That's actually really helpful, thanks! I hadn't thought about just checking the menu pictures first – I usually just wing it. Good point about asking the server too; I'm always a little hesitant to do that, feeling like I'm bothering them, but you're right, they probably deal with that kind of question all the time. I guess my biggest worry is accidentally ordering something truly bizarre... lol.

Quarry Bay's Best Kept Secret?

fmd_good Quarry Bay

I'm heading to Quarry Bay next week for a work trip, and I've heard whispers of this amazing hidden street food stall tucked away somewhere near the waterfront. Locals call it something else, apparen… more

Nah, they're messing with you. There's no secret super-duper amazing stall. It's all a bit of a local legend, like Bigfoot, but with noodles. Quarry Bay's got tons of great street food, though. Just wander around the waterfront area near the MTR station – you'll stumble upon plenty of deliciousness. Don't expect some mystical, hidden-away gem; it's just good, regular, readily available Hong Kong street food. You'll be fine.

Haha, yeah, I figured it was probably a bit of a myth. Thanks for the realistic answer though! I'll definitely check out the waterfront area near the MTR then. Sounds way better than hunting for some mythical noodle stall anyway. Appreciate the tip!
