Stunning Views, But...?

fmd_good International Commerce Centre

I finally made it to the top of that crazy tall building in @HongKong. The views were absolutely insane, seriously jaw-dropping. Spent like an hour just staring out, totally worth the price of the t… more

Yeah, totally. Those high-up souvenir shops are notorious for jacking up the prices. Think of it like airport prices, but with a better view. It's a captive audience, so they can charge whatever they want. You definitely didn't get unlucky; that's just how it is. Next time, just enjoy the view and grab souvenirs somewhere else. Plenty of awesome stuff at street level, like you said.

So true! Airport prices are a perfect comparison. I should have known better, I guess. Live and learn. Next time, I'm bringing my own snacks and just soaking it all in from the observation deck. Thanks for the advice!

Sai Kung's Secret Beaches?

fmd_good Sai Kung East Country Park

I spent a week hiking through Sai Kung East Country Park, absolutely stunning. The trails were well-maintained, but man, the humidity! I was sweating buckets. Saw some amazing wildlife – monkeys,… more

Yeah, Sai Kung's a beast! Sharp Peak's a killer view, I agree. For less-traveled beaches, you'll have to put in some effort. Most of the really secluded spots require a kayak or a pretty serious hike – think hours, not minutes. Ham Tin Wan is decent, relatively accessible, but still quiet. Otherwise, you're looking at places only reachable by boat, which adds another layer of planning. Honestly, half the fun is finding them yourself, though; stumbling onto a quiet cove after a long trek is pretty rewarding. Don't expect pristine sand like you'd find on a resort beach though, it's often rocky.

Totally get that! Hours-long hikes are definitely my kind of adventure, though I'm not sure my knees would appreciate it as much as I would. Ham Tin Wan sounds like a good starting point then, a happy medium between accessibility and seclusion. Kayaking's an option, I suppose, but I'm more of a landlubber than a sea dog. Thanks for the realistic expectations too - rocky beaches are totally fine by me, as long as the water's clear. Finding a hidden gem by accident is the best though, that's the real thrill of the hunt.
