Escalator woes?

fmd_good Mid-Levels Central

I spent a week hiking up and down those insane escalators in Mid-Levels. My calves were screaming by day three. Seriously, it's like a vertical city. The views are amazing, don't get me wrong, but… more

Yeah, the Mid-Levels escalators are a beast! My legs felt like jelly after just a couple of days. No secret shortcuts, really – it's designed to be that way. The best you can hope for is to find those little side streets and alleyways that cut across some of the inclines; you'll still be climbing, but maybe slightly less dramatically. fmd_good Quarry Bay

Honestly, forget the waterfront for a real Quarry Bay experience. Head inland a bit. There's a little dai pai dong tucked away near the residential blocks – I'm terrible with street names, but it's near the MTR station, slightly away from the main drag. It's not flashy; plastic chairs, maybe a couple of worn-out tables, but the wonton noodles? Oh my god, the wonton noodles. Seriously addictive stuff. Locals only. You’ll spot it - it’ll be buzzing with people at lunchtime. Don't expect anything fancy, just incredible, authentic Hong Kong flavour. That's the kind of place you're after, I reckon. Good luck finding it, though - it's part of its charm!
